Book cover

Title: Daisy Jones and the Six (2019) by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
Synopsis: When singer Daisy Jones meets Billy Dunne of the band   The Six, the two rising 70s rock-and-roll artists are catapulted into stardom when a producer puts them together, a decision that is complicated by pregnancy and the seductions of fame.

I enjoyed this book a lot! I felt attached to the characters after just a few pages and couldn't stop reading. I loved the unique writing style. The narrative is framed in an interview style, with all the characters’ versions of the stories recounting their own memories of the same truth. It is a great choice to show that everyone has a different version of the truth. It might not work for everyone, but it absolutely worked for me.

The story brought me back to when I was younger, I used to play guitar a lot and I loved listening to bands and rock music and writing my own songs. The sentiment and feeling towards rock music and writing songs resonated a lot with me and made me feel a special connection with the characters, especially Billy and Daisy. I fell in love with them and enjoyed the contrast between them and the way they gravitate towards each other and connect through music.

This book is full of beauty and pain and heartache. You can feel the characters' emotions so well, and the book really is about these characters above all. The characters deal with hard choices, whether in their personal lives or in the music industry, It's about being pulled to your darker side and thinking about how you come out of that and who are the people that will be there for you despite it all.

This book is about music, what music does, how it reflects all the emotions and how art can make us feel.

I am so so excited this book is being made into a tv show, while reading the book it did feel very cinematic to me and above all I am very excited to see if they record some of the songs in the book. At the end of the book you can find all the lyrics to the songs and it's also something I appreciated the author did.

RATING: 5/5 ★★★★★
