Blogging For Beginners: Before Starting A Blog

How to Start A Blog

Anyone can create a blog-and people of all ages are doing so. In this post, you will find three main questions I asked myself before I started my own blog.

If you ever wanted to become a blogger and wondered about questions like How to create a blog for free? What do I need to know before I start a blog? I will try to answer some of these questions for you,  I hope this post is useful to you so you can start blogging now! ðŸ’»

Blogging For Beginners: How to Start A Blog

1. What is your Niche?

Selecting a niche can be a challenging task. What precisely are you planning to write about? Your niche should be a popular topic that piques the interest of many.

Given that numerous bloggers write about their favorite subjects, it's a good idea to begin brainstorming by jotting down a list of your hobbies, interests, and areas of professional expertise. Now, attempt to identify a niche within one of those areas.

While creating this list, consider potential blog names. Although it's not a focal point in this post, it's something you should start contemplating.

I've decided that my blog will primarily feature book reviews and various lists and ideas related to the books I read. It's true that you don't have to limit yourself to just one theme or subject, but to achieve success and build a following, it's advisable to stick to one topic.

If you choose a niche that is too narrow, you might struggle to generate regular, fresh content. On the other hand, if you opt for a topic that is overly broad, your readers may become perplexed by a mishmash of seemingly unrelated posts. However, this doesn't mean you can't occasionally blog about topics related to your main subject.

For instance, if you maintain a travel blog, you can still write about the books you read while traveling. If you run a fashion blog, you can explore fashion trends in the places you visit. The possibilities are numerous.

2. Do you have the time?

Do you need to blog every day? Absolutely not, especially if it's not your full-time job or merely a hobby. If you aspire to become a part-time or full-time blogger, then posting a couple of times a week is advisable. However, if it's just a hobby, you should post whenever it suits you best.

The reality is that blogging shouldn't consume too much of your time. Nevertheless, if you want your posts to reach a broader audience, you must also consider the time you'll spend on other social media platforms to promote your blog, crafting posts, engaging with your audience, and creating graphics.

All of these activities can be time-consuming. But don't be disheartened if you're thinking, "I don't have the time for all of this!" I know people with full-time jobs who still manage to find time to blog. The key is to determine how much time and effort you're willing to invest in your blog and avoid overexerting yourself by staying up late into the night.

When I initially launched my blog, I outlined about 30 post ideas I wanted to publish. In general, it's a good practice to plan ahead.

3. What is the blogging platform best suited for you?

If you're new to blogging, a free blogging website is an excellent way to start. Popular blogging platforms like Blogger and WordPress enable users to set up and host a blog at no cost. The fact that these platforms provide all the necessary tools for launching your blog for free encourages many to take the plunge.

Both Blogger and WordPress require no coding knowledge, making it easy to build and post on your blog. Since it's free, you have nothing to lose.

Many individuals who have never had an online presence before are drawn to blogging, partly because it's so accessible. These days, numerous platforms can be used to start a blog, but the most widely recognized ones are Blogger and WordPress. So, which one is better?

You can start a WordPress blog entirely free of charge. However, if you want the option to use various plugins and access more theme choices, you'll need to opt for hosting. Finding a web host is neither challenging nor expensive. However, since I haven't personally used one yet, I'll leave the hosting decisions in your hands. Choosing this route provides the benefit of a more professional-looking blog and greater control over all aspects of your site.
